Creating a sustainable Beddington Farmlands – community consultation

Operators of the Beddington Farmlands landfill site, Valencia Waste Management will consult with the local community on proposals for the final restoration scheme of the 120-hectare historic landfill site in December.
The Beddington Farmlands landfill site has served the communities of south London for over twenty years as a disposal point for rubbish and is now transitioning into a nature reserve with managed public access. Through technical assessments a number of elements of the proposed scheme have been found to be unviable including the water supply to the new wet grassland habitats and a significant area of acidic grasslands.

The Farmlands team have worked with local stakeholders including the advisory panel of the Conservation and Access Management Committee, drawn from technical and community representatives in the formation of revised new proposals that more accurately reflect the changing climate, environment and long-term conditions on the site.

The consultation will run from 13th December – 5th January 12.00.and will be an opportunity for the local community to feedback on the proposals. A dedicated project website has been prepared and will be made live at 09.00 on 13th December – www.beddingtonfarmlands.co.uk

Valencia Waste Management will be hosting a webinar on 13th December – 17.30-19.00 this will include a presentation of the proposals and an opportunity to ask questions of the project team. All feedback received will be reviewed and included within the final proposals submitted to the London Borough of Sutton for approval later in the year.
